annagry parish pastoral council

In every parish in the diocese, a Pastoral Council shall be established, if the diocesan Bishop, after consulting with the Council of Presbyters, so decides. – Canon 536, §1

Parish Pastoral Councils respond to the call of the Second Vatican Council for the co-responsible leadership of priests and people in the total mission of the parish. (1)  They are structures of participation that have the potential to transform the life of a parish; priests and people work together in the power of the Holy Spirit and renew the church as they co-ordinate and harness the efforts of parishioners who live and share the Good News of Christ in the local community.

What is the Parish Pastoral Council?
Annagry Parish Pastoral Council (APPC) is a partnership of clergy and laity consulting and working together to enable the parish community to fulfil its vision. For many years now lay people and clergy have been working together in the parish helping to sustain what is a vibrant and caring community. The Parish Pastoral Council places this ‘leadership through partnership’ on a more secure and enduring footing.

How was the Parish Pastoral Council formed?
Bishop Alan McGuckian, through the Raphoe Diocesan Pastoral Plan – ‘Ar Aghaidh le Chéile’ initiative invited people to join with clergy in the training of Parish Pastoral Councils in 2022/23. This training was led in our Deanery area by Jim Deeds in Ionad Naomh Padráig, Dobhar over a number of months. Our Annagry Parish Pastoral Council is a partnership of Fr Nigel as Parish Priest and committed volunteer laypeople who together work to build up the Christian Community in our Annagry Parish. It is concerned with deepening faith through education and celebration of the sacraments, future planning for the parish, and developing lay participation.

The Role of the Parish Pastoral Council
Annagry PPC strives to ensure ongoing good communication between all members of the faith community, the Council and Parish groups. It aims to expand and enrich the sense of ownership and participation across the whole faith community and extend welcome and outreach to new parishioners as the community expands.

Our Annagry Parish Mission Statement:

“The Pastoral Council of Annagry, with gratitude for the faith and Catholic tradition we have inherited, with the help of God will continue to nurture a welcoming and joyful faith community, where all grow closer to God. Let us cast our nets into the deep. Let us sow a seed of faith for future generations. Pobal Dé Le Chéile”
